The Relationship of Ecology and Environment in Human Existence

Ecology and Environment

In the science of Biology, Ecology is the study of the relation of organisms to one another and their environment, or the conditions where life operates.  In human development, the role of ecology and environment is important as it determines the needs of a community to prosper.

A small rural population residing in a remote area would have to adapt to their ecology and environment to thrive.  This could mean that the individuals learn specific skills to become self-sufficient, or resort to establishing ties with other human populations to trade goods required to survive.  They would live off the land while simultaneously creating jobs to sustain their community.

In contrast, a huge group living in an ecology and environment such as a central business district would probably have all their basic needs within their grasp, but would still make adjustments like providing open spaces where trees could be planted and children could play to stave off the ill effects of air pollution and promote a concern for the natural world at large.  Although they may be far away from open plains and forested areas, they would still be in touch with nature and its benefits for humanity when you accept that you are responsible for its continued existence.

Other manifestations of ecology and environment affecting a human settlement would be areas where weather plays a crucial part in the lives of the people.  The diet and clothing of persons residing in a desert would be different from those living in a place covered in ice.  As would the tools they would use to build shelter, their mode of transportation, and their daily tasks.  The same could be said of populations residing in a tropical ecology and environment versus those who would stay in a mountainous region of the planet.

Provided there is a possible source of potable water and edible food, humans could exist anywhere on the earth and adjust to their ecology and environment as needed.
